‘We talk of leaving, but we never go…’, Cyril Wong, everybody. No other words could have better summed up our national sentiment than Nation Building: Haikus For Leaving. The poem, romantic and tragic at the same time, addresses our love/hate relationship with the country and the corresponding collective Stockholm Syndrome inherent in its citizens. That may not be unique to Singapore – all things considered. The grass always seem greener on the other side of the fence.
