Of course we will always make time and space for some classical drawings. Yanyun Chen‘s charcoal drawings is full of gravitas and you can only chalk it up to her in-depth understanding of how light and shadow work hand-in-hand. Her darkest shade might as well be the charcoal equivalent of Vanta Black, it’s so deep and dark it might as well not exist at all. This heavy use of chiaroscuro in her charcoal works bring about a certain eeriness, may it be portrait or still life – but we aren’t averse to it!
