Every time I hit play on a pop punk record, I automatically teleport to a nineties coming-of-age film, even more specifically, to that scene where the entire school decides to gate-crash some dude’s party. So shoutout to Xingfoo & Roy, Late To The Party just fuelled my addiction to the genre — yes, to pop-punk and b-movies. Some of the guitars brought San Diego natives, Pinback, to mind, albeit on steroids; a lot of the tracks are potential anthems to our collective disillusionment — even as full-grown, high-functioning adults. The surprise minor lifts peppered throughout the entire album are so extra. WE’LL BE ALRIGHT.
